About
Around 2012, I began producing charcoals drawings. In my charcoals, I have always endeavored to capture the elegance and beauty of movement, form and proportion. Inspiration for my artwork is often drawn from found images, or photo’s that I have taken over time.
I use charcoals of various densities, charcoal powders and occasionally even graphite powders, to create the various tones. I have found though that I do favor the softest charcoals available, as they produce the deepest blacks. The naked whiteness of the paper feels as it has been carved out of the deep velvet like surface, creating an image of intense chiaroscuro. Rarely is any instrument used other than my finger to create each image. I manually rub the charcoal into the surface of the paper.
Since 2020, I have concentrated on producing pixelated oil paintings, or as some refer to it, contemporary pointillist art. Every painting has many hundreds of individually painted squares, each colored square individually mixed and meticulously placed so that when viewed from a distance, the colored pixels blend optically forming the image. Inspiration for these paintings is drawn from found images, mostly of well-known images or paintings of other artists.
From late 2021, the pixels transformed into randomly shaped triangles, with the same detail and precision used in the pixel paintings and the thoughtful choice of colors, forming a pleasing abstracted image that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the artwork.
